Advertising & Marketing

There was a girl or guy you liked in high school. Or maybe you didn’t. But they ask you one day this very important question:

“Will you go to the prom with me?”

You’re not interested. Maybe it was their weird haircut, apparent nervousness, or a lack of confidence. Maybe you’re too shy and don’t want to go. Maybe you don’t see them as your type.

Maybe, as it turns out, you are interested; you feel very special by being asked - and you find them appealing - their charming voice, understated looks - all of those things. You look forward to your prom date.

Let’s substitute this other person for an advertising campaign to illustrate what I believe to be the largest failing of large scale marketing agencies:

Some dorky looking person walks in, interrupting your class or your study time, clearly interested in one thing. They come from a family of money so they’re never poorly dressed - but something is missing - their personality. Their soul.

They’ve got your prom tickets already, arranged a chauffeur; they propose this to you in the most grandiose immoderate way you can imagine - how can you say no?

But it’s just not your style. And they’re not just asking you, they’re asking anyone with legs to go with them. Everyone can see that. But they don’t get the message. They don’t even go to the same school. Yet here they are.

All these companies trying to win a date with you! They’re nothing without you, not the other way around.

Have a nice day.

I wish I wrote this. This is beautiful.

Hello again

It has been quite a while since there’s been any update out here. Rather than make the usual apologies, I will simply say that no news is good news and all things are well. I have restored, redesigned my computer to be a music mixing powerhouse and this has taken some time. I will be working with some of the in progress songs sometime this week. Cheers!
